EMFAF to Provide €2.6 Million to Improve Fisheries Science

The European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) will invest €2.6 million (USD$2.75 million) in EU funding on projects that improve scientific knowledge for the EU sustainable fisheries policy and help grow a sustainable blue economy, increase food security and protect the oceans.

A new call for proposals will support projects that aim to strengthen the scientific knowledge needed to design of science-based policies for sustainable fisheries conservation and management. Its goals include fostering sustainable fisheries and the conservation of marine biological resources; contributing to food security through competitive and sustainable aquaculture and markets; enabling the growth of a sustainable blue economy and fostering prosperous coastal communities; and strengthening international ocean governance and enabling safe, secure, clean and sustainably managed seas and oceans.

The activities that may be eligible under the new call could include field research that falls outside the scope of national data collection programs, improving protocols, creating studies for stock evaluations, expanding current databases or linking current initiatives.

Applicants can submit their proposals until 20 February 2025.
