Sustainable Ocean Alliance, Solar Impulse Launch Certification for Ocean-Positive Businesses

The Sustainable Ocean Alliance, in collaboration with Solar Impulse Foundation, is launching the Ocean Solution Label—an industry-first certification label to recognize companies promoting solutions that contribute to the sustainability of the ocean sector.

The SOA Ocean Solution Label builds on the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label, recognizing ocean-positive companies with a stamp of approval for their efforts to deploy business practices that protect and preserve the ocean.

The label is intended to confer credibility for ocean positive business; provide access to SOA’s Ecopreneur Network and more than 250 ocean investors and VCs who can help a business to grow, scale, and amplify its ocean-positive solution; provide mentorship from SOA’s network; and visibility and exposure.

SOA said its Ocean Solution Label consists of a rigorous application process that analyzes how a company’s business practices are specifically working to safeguard the ocean. Applicants must be a for-profit startup, be ocean-positive—with business strategies and practices that sustain, regenerate, or restore the ocean’s health and resilience; be contributing to the UN SDGs; be economically competitive within their market; and have unique existing solutions that are clean, profitable, and outperform the  mainstream options in their markets.
