Ocean Ledger, Whose Tech Forecasts Coastal Risks, Raises $900,000

London-based geospatial analytics startup Ocean Ledger, whose technology forecasts coastal risks and identifies interventions, has raised a $900,000 pre-seed round. The company will use the funds to scale its solutions that are used by engineering firms, municipalities, environmental services, and insurance.

According to the EU Science Hub, around one third of the EU population lives within 50 km of the coast. Extreme sea levels in Europe could rise by as much as one meter or more by the end of this century. Without climate mitigation and coastal adaptation measures, annual damage from coastal flooding in the EU+UK could increase sharply. Global warming is driving sea-level rise and intensifies coastal storms, resulting in more frequent flooding. Mitigation and adaptation could avoid around 95% of the damages that would be seen with no action.

Ocean Ledger said its technology forecasts localized coastal shoreline and environmental changes over time and space, harnessing satellite imagery, machine learning, and site-level data. It has 13 in-house data products spanning natural capital accounting to coastal erosion, offering granular, high-resolution analytics. Project managers, underwriters, and coastal engineers can compare physical assets against a contextualized baseline to make and monitor informed decisions with greater confidence.

By linking physical and environmental risks with climate perils, we can enable proactive risk management and continuous monitoring,” said Paige Roepers, CEO of Ocean Ledger.

Funding for the investment was led by Ananda Impact Ventures and Silverstrand Capital. In a LinkedIn post, Ananda Impact Ventures wrote: “Coastal ecosystems are critical to our planet’s climate resilience. They provide natural buffers against extreme weather, support biodiversity, and capture carbon at rates up to 10x faster than terrestrial forests. Yet, they’re under increasing threat from pollution, overdevelopment, and climate change—often without the necessary data to drive effective protection efforts.”

“By combining satellite data, AI-powered analytics, and field insights, Ocean Ledger provides real-time, high-precision monitoring of coastal habitats. This enables governments, conservation groups, and businesses to take actionable steps in blue finance, nature-based solutions, and environmental risk assessment—turning data into protection.”
