Scuba Schools International (SSI), a for-profit organization that teaches the skills involved in scuba diving and freediving, has launched a new site that marries scuba diving with ocean cleanup. The site, Blue Oceans, said its divers have already removed nearly 42,000 kilograms of plastic from the ocean.
SSI supports dive businesses and resorts. It has more than 3,500 authorized dealers, 35 regional centers, and offices all over the world. The Blue Oceans site serves as a learning platform and place where Blue Oceans Centers can exchange ideas, share success stories, seek assistance, and share projects. The platform aims to foster a movement dedicated to conserving aquatic environments.
“We’re excited to unveil our brand-new landing page, designed to empower ocean advocates everywhere to make a difference,” the center announced in a social media post. “Whether you’re looking to take action, learn, or connect with Blue Ocean Centers, this is your space.”
The platform allows members to join Environmental Events Worldwide; connect with Blue Oceans Centers–like-minded dive centers and organizations worldwide committed to protecting the ocean; access Free Educational Resources such as lessons, posters, Instagram slides, and other ready-to-use materials covering essential ocean topics.
The site also has a Cleanup Dive Logging feature is that divers can log the trash they pick up during dives. This data is added to the Blue Ocean Trash Counter in real time. This allows divers to immediately see the impact of their efforts on conservation globally.
