TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING has launched its largest-ever green methanol dual-fueled container ship which it said will go into service in February 2026. The 5,900 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) can accommodate up to 5,915 containers both in the hold and on deck.
The company said it can achieve outstanding fuel efficiency even when compared with conventional fuel oil vessels in the same segment because of its energy saving technology, MT-FAST, which improves propulsion efficiency by regulating water flow through multiple fins in front of the propellor, as well as a large capacity shaft generator and an improved hull.
The main engine and on-board generators are capable of operating on methanol fuel. In addition, the vessel is equipped with systems compatible with large-capacity shore power supply, enabling the generators to be shut down while in port, thereby further accelerating CO2 reduction.
“The launch of this methanol dual-fuelled 5,900 TEU type container carrier marks a historic milestone for TZS. We are actively engaged in the construction of next-generation, environmentally responsible vessels, enhancing the value of ships while ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality,” said Murakami Yoshifumi, President and Director of TSUNEISHI. “With a vision of creating a society where people and the environment coexist in harmony, we remain committed to contributing to a sustainable future through these initiatives.”
