U-Ming and Purus Group Form UPO Holdings to Expand Offshore Wind Power in Taiwan and Asia-Pacific

U-Ming Marine Offshore (UMO), a subsidiary of U-Ming Shipping, and offshore energy maritime services company Purus Group have established UPO Holdings Co., a joint venture to accelerate the expansion of offshore wind power in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region.

UPO has ordered two customized VARD 419 commissioning service operation vessels (CSOVs). Each vessel is 88 meters long and specifically designed for the harsh wind, current, and wave conditions in Taiwan’s waters. The two new vessels are expected to be delivered starting in 2027. The partners aim to provide a new benchmark for green offshore operations and maintenance innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.

“The establishment of UPO is not merely an equity partnership, but a strategic commitment to jointly plan the future of clean energy in the Asia- Pacific region,” said Hsu Kuo-an, Chairman of UPO. “Leveraging the Far Eastern Group’s abundant resources, U-Ming Shipping’s deep expertise in maritime operations, and Purus’s professional strengths in offshore wind power, we are building a bridge connecting Taiwan with the green energy world. This collaboration is not just about introducing a fleet, but also represents an important practice of actively promoting Taiwan’s energy transition and sustainable development.”
